Here is a nice booklet that provides a short history of the Roycroft Shop as written by Elbert Hubbard himself, published in 1909. According to Hubbard, the editor of “The Cosmopolitan Magazine” asked him to “write an article for publication about myself and the work in which I am engaged”. Describes in details Hubbard’s early writing attempts, his creation of the Philistine magazine, his involvement with bookbinder Louis Kinder, etc. This version wtht a beautiful Dard Hunter rose cover, his initials in lower right corner. Also a Dard Hunter frontispiece in B&W. This copy an unusual dark purplish brown color. Presumably this was also published in the Cosmopolitan, but this is an original 1909 booklet printed by the Roycrofters. 32 pages, sewn wraps (6″x8″).
In good to very good condition, with small chip at base of spine and small edge tears to overlapping edges. Interior nice and clean and tight.
