Description
Here’s a gorgeous 1905 copy of Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving, in a scarce modeled leather binding by the Roycroft Shop. 48 pages, with initials and title page by noted artist Dard Hunter–each initial is its own little piece of art! The paper is handmade and some pages are embossed with the Denslow Roycroft seahorse mark. Very, very pretty. But you’re here for the modeled leather binding, aren’t you? This one features a windmill and vine design on the cover, the title running again down the spine, and 3-leaf clovers on the corners of the turn-ins.
The external binding has some light scuffing and some splitting starting at top and bottom joints, as well as a tiny bit of leather loss at top of spine, but everything is still holding together well. Inside, there is age toning opposite the leather turn-ins and on text block edges, but otherwise quite clean with no writing or tears.
