Description
Original photograph of Roycroft-founder Elbert Hubbard as he boarded the ill-fated Lusitania on 1 May, 1915. This pose is taken of him standing straight-on, unlike the more common photo seen of him in 3/4 view. The photo measures about 4 3/4 x 7″ and was taken by a New York Daily photographer where it eventually found its way into the collection of Dick Blacher. The photo is somewhat unevenly cut, possibly from a proof sheet, and has notations on the back that may indicate it’s a press photo. There is also a “Copyright By” stamp on the back, but the copyright holder is illegible. In fair condition with some crackling/creasing to front emulsion.
