Description
Here is Love Life & Work, a book written by Elbert Hubbard and published in 1906 by the Roycrofters. 150 pages plus colophon. The cover, title page, initials and ornaments in the book are beautifully crafted by famed papermaker and designer Dard Hunter. The cover is a deep red suede), with matching moire endpapers. The pages are printed in red and black ink. First and only edition of Hubbard’s musings, as he puts it “being a book of opinions reasonably good natured concerning how to obtain the highest happiness for one’s self with the least possible harm to others”. ( I believe it includes some of Hubbard’s essays from The Philistine.) Later, Elbert’s wife Alice published a companion book in similar format entitled “Woman’s Work”. There is a nice frontispiece of Elbert by Otto Schneider protected with a tissue guard.
The book is in very good condition. The suede cover is intact and clean and near fine. The binding is solid, though the front hinge is cracked, and the silk bookmark is present and still attached. The pages are clean and in excellent condition with no writing or tears noted. A lovely copy overall.
