Description

East Aurora, Illustrated, a scarce photo history-advertisement for the New York hamlet that attracted Elbert Hubbard and spawned the Roycroft Shops in the mid 1890s. This book pre-dates that, since there is no mention of Hubbard or the Roycrofters enterprise which operated from 1895 to 1938. The booklet is printed with many rare photos, including a birds-eye view of the village across the center pages. Seems to be a piece to recruit people and businesses to East Aurora, as there is a real estate stamp on title page. The booklet could have been one of the reasons the young Hubbards moved to East Aurora, as there is a substantial section on one of Elbert’s passions, horses.

Bound in paper with stapled binding, 9 1/4″ x 5 3/4″. about 40 pages. No publication information , but printed by Kittinger Printing Co in Buffalo. In good only condition with dirt and wear to cover and some staining to page edges. Only two copies listed in Worldcat, both held in the nearby Buffalo area.
