Here is an unusual Oz-related record (LP) of Queen Zixi of Ix (or the Story of the Magic Cloak), an L Frank Baum tale. Narrated by Ray Bolger (The Scarecrow in the 1939 MGM movie). Disk by Caedmon, 12″ record copyright 1977. The best part of this album is the incredible fantasy cover by award winning children’s illustrators Leo and Diane Dillon! The Dillons also illustrated a Caedmon WIzard of Oz and Little Oz Stories; all their Oz work is hard to find. This is the first sealed copy I have had. You will have to decide whether to break it open or not! In addition to being read by Bolger, this album includes a long writeup on the back of the sleeve by Oz scholar Michael Patrick Hearn. After reading his praise of Queen Zixi of Ix, I’m going to have to finally read the book myself…
Light wear and soiling to plastic edges, including a small break at base; record sleeve appears near fine. A very beautiful and scarce item for the Oz record collector.
