Here is a rare find: one of the Aunt Jane’s Nieces series with intact dust jacket! Collectors have been snapping these up. Aunt Jane’s Nieces in Society; fifth of the series for girls written by L. Frank Baum (Wizard of Oz author) under the Edith Van Dyne pseudonym. Copyright 1910, Reilly & Britton. Front endpaper and jacket flap list all ten titles in this series to “In the Red Cross”, so this book published circa 1915 (1st edition, 6th printing acording to the Book Collectors Guide to Baum). Oval color illustration on cover, B&W frontispiece. Horizontal rule on spine.
The book itself is in good condition, with a clean cover but some staining to the base of spine. Inside, hinges are tight and there is faint moisture staining visible on the edges of frontispiece and very lightly on the title page, the list of chapters page, and rear endpaper. The jacket is fair, complete but with significant staining along bottom edge as shown. Flaps are intact and clean–front flap has the story synopsis; the rear flap advertises the Flying Girl series.
