Description
Here’s Annabel, one of L Frank Baum’s books that he wrote under the Suzanne Metcalf pseudonym. This is the 1st edition, 2nd printing by Reilly & Britton (copyright 1906 and published prior to 1912). This 2nd printing was bound in Binding C which has the publisher’s name on the spine in upper and lower-case letters (Book Collector’s Guide to L Frank Baum). The 1st printing of the 1st edition is extremely scarce, with a hotly-contested copy selling last year for about $5K at the Oz Club auction.
This 2nd printing only fair, as it only has 4 of the 6 B&W plates by Joseph Pierre Nuyttens, missing the frontis, one other plate, and the front endpaper. The spine and edges of cover have some fading as shown. Rear hinge lightly cracked, but holding well. Pages with a former owner’s name and light soiling.
