Description
Here is one of Baum’s non-Wizard of Oz books that isn’t seen very often; The Enchanted Island of Yew. This gorgeous book from 1903 by Bobbs-Merrill is also a first edition, 2nd printing, with the yellow lightrays coming from the fairies wand on the front and orange textual illustrations, but with the fairy on p. 238 printed right side up. The Book Collector’s Guide to L Frank Baum says it may have been released at the same time as the first printing in late 1903. This edition also contains eight peculiar and wonderful color plates by Fanny Y. Cory. In addition, the illustrated endpapers are the blue variant, originally from the Magical Monarch of Mo book.
This copy is in amazing, near fine condition–it looks almost new! The front cover illustration is in beautiful shape, very clean with essential no wear. The same for the spine and rear cover, which are still bright and clean. Inside, the endpapers are very nice, the hinges are tight, and the binding is solid. There is a 1907 inscription on the back of the frontispiece. All 8 plates are present, and in fine condition. Pages with no writing or tears, very clean. Truly the nicest copy of this book I have ever seen–you will not be disappointed.
