Description
Here is an interesting Dutch Oz book: De Grote Tovenaar van Oz (The Great Wizard of Oz). This is a a large cloth hardback, 198 numbered pages, with internal B&W illustrations by Rein van Looy. Published in Amsterdam by L J Veens. Undated, but this is the ca. 1940 hardback edition described in Hungry Tiger Talk here: http://hungrytigerpress.blogspot.com/2010/08/when-in-amsterdam.html . A scarce early Oz publication.
The many illustrations seem to be adapted from the early Denslow illustrations, but with a splash from the MGM film thrown in. Also included is a FACSIMILE dust jacket as shown. The book is in good condition with a clean cover, but some fading and splitting starting along edge of spine. Inside, the binding is a little loose but holding, and pages have minor wear and toning with some notation in upper corners of two endpapers.
