Description
Here is a 1st printing of The Purple Prince of Oz, by Ruth Plumly Thompson, in the original 1st edition dust jacket! Published in 1932 by Reilly & Lee, this is the first printing with 12 color plates by John R. Neill, and the dust jacket listing titles to Purple Prince of Oz. With illustrated endpapers. One of the harder Oz 1sts to find–as the color plates were discontinued shortly after in about 1935. This book was the personal copy of Ray Powell, an early and involved member of the International Wizard of Oz Club, dedicated collector, as well as author: https://www.ozclub.org/about/l-frank-baum-memorial-award-winners/ray-powell/
The book is in very good plus condition–the front cover pastedown has light wear at base, the spine and rear cover are very clean. Inside, the binding is tight and the endpapers are clean, with possibly a very neat repair to the front hinge. The ownership page has Ray’s name and customized bookplate opposite. The other pages are super clean and all 12 color plates are present and in wonderful condition. The dust jacket is near very good, with some edge wear and small losses as shown. Flaps are in excellent, unclipped condition.
