Here is a rare Italian version of The Wizard of Oz–Il Mago di Oz, published circa 1940 by S.A.S. (Societa Apostolato Stampa). Very early edition, with 8 gorgeous tipped-in plates depicting scenes from the movie. The cover depicts the 5 main characters from the movie standing atop another early Italian Oz edition. 253 pages. A hard to find title; this is the edition listed as either lot 277 or 278 in the Greene collection catalog put out by Swann Galleries in 1993–and both sold for $165 at that time. Book measures 5.5″ by 8.25″ and is in softcover wraps with the edges of the paper cover overlapping the page block slightly.
The cover is very fragile in this book, and this particular copy was owned by a Bologna library, so is in poor to fair condition. The cover was laminated and the lamination is coming loose from the spine, which has a paper laabel, and the front hinge badly torn. Library markings on the title page. That said, the book is complete and all the inserted 8 plates are present in very good condition. An unusual addition for the Oz collector who has almost everything!
