Description
Here is your choice of 2 Victorian trade cards most likely illustrated by Wizard of Oz artist W W Denslow. These are two comic cards showing ice skaters, one “Clear the Track” and the other “Breakers Behind”. Both designs were printed by lithographers Baker & Hayes, with whom Denslow did other work (see Spring 2015 Baum Bugle for more info). Den didn’t sign his cards for Baker and Hayes, but the characters and lettering are in his style of the period. The Clear the Track card is printed with the overlapping B&H mark. In Tow is marked “442” but the same image has been identified with the B&H mark as well as just “H”, possibly for Hayes. There are 4 cards in this series, all wicked hard to find. Price is for one card, increase cart quantity for more than one.
