Description
Here is a wonderful lot for the serious Oziana collector! Through arrangement by Reilly & Lee, several of L Frank Baum’s books were serialized under “The Wonderful Stories of Oz” name and distributed to newspapers throughout the country. Here are 117 oversized (~17″x21″) newspaper sheets, many illustrated, with segments of the Oz stories from two California newspapers. Included are 2 sheets from the San Francisco Chronicle for 1921, 43 sheets from the Chronicle in 1922 and 18 from 1923), 31 from the Los Angeles Junior Times from 1924, 16 from 1925 and 7 from 1926. Stories are from The Patchwork Girl of Oz, The Emerald City of Oz, The Scarecrow of Oz, Tik-Tok of Oz, Rinkitink in Oz, and possibly more. No duplicates. These include not just the Oz sheets, but other Sunday fun items, including some color comics and cutouts. I do have an Excel spreadsheet of the specific story titles if you’d like more information.
The newspapers are printed on acidic paper and very fragile, most with substantial edge chipping and wear, occasional tears and some have been trimmed. See photos. The stories seem to be complete and each year is in an archival sleeve. Amazing so many survived at all–usually I find just one or two of these at a time. An instant collection! Will be shipped loosely folded over and well protected in a large box.
Also note: If you would like a smaller, less expensive collection of these newspapers, I have an additional set of 31 that are duplicates that I would sell separately, though many of these have long tears in addition to the shipping. Use the Contact Link above for more info.
