Description
Here is a nice booklet that provides a short history of the Roycroft Shop as written by Elbert Hubbard himself, published in 1909. According to Hubbard, the editor of “The Cosmopolitan Magazine” asked him to “write an article for publication about myself and the work in which I am engaged”. Describes in details Hubbard’s early writing attempts, his creation of the Philistine magazine, his involvement with bookbinder Louis Kinder, etc. This version with a beautiful Dard Hunter rose cover, his initials in lower right corner. Also a Dard Hunter frontispiece in B&W. Presumably this was also published in the Cosmopolitan, but this is an original 1909 booklet printed by the Roycrofters. 32 pages, sewn wraps (6″x8″).
In fair condition, with some edge tears to overlapping edges, spine split about 2″ along base, 1/2″ tear along spine, with considerable wear/folding/small chips to rear cover also. Inside, former owner’s name, pencil date, light soiling, with some splitting along bottom of gatherings.
