Description
Here is a first edition/first printing of Glinda of Oz by L. Frank Baum, published in about 1920 by Reilly & Lee. As required by The Book Collector’s Guide to L. Frank Baum reference, Glinda of Oz is the last book in the publisher’s advertisement in the front, and the book has 12 color plates by John R. Neill without captions, as well as nice illustrated endpapers.
The book is in very good condition overall, with secure binding and hinges, though the plate opposide p. 212 has been replaced and laid in. That plate has a little staining at the bottom. Color pastedown is very nice; spine is extremely clean and straight; endpapers are clean. Book Belongs To page has a name, Frank E(dwin) Egler, an ecologist who collaborated on Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring book. Frank’sa mother has also written a gift inscription on the back of the frontispiece. All 12 plates are present and in very good condition save for the one noted above. Pages are in excellent, clean condition. A nice, collectible copy.
