Description
Here is an interesting Night Before Christmas book, that uses some art by W. W. Denslow of Wizard of Oz fame. Undated, with B&W Donohue version is probably from the 1920s to 1940s. These illustrations were originally printed in color in Denslow’s Night Before Christmas by Dillingham, but later Donohue utilized Den’s art in various ways. This book retains 7 full-page Denslow illustrations, each signed with the seahorse and “DEN”. One image includes the Tin Woodman of Oz and Mother Goose in Santa’s bag, and Santa’s sleigh has a Mother Goose front end! Very fun, whimsical and classic Denslow style. Some illustrations by other artists also.
In good condition, with some flaws–light water stain to sides of front and rear cover, not extending to the pages inside. Wear to edges of boards. Inside, child’s name written in pencil on front endpaper. Pages generally in good condition, with age toning. An unusual edition for your Denslow collection.
