Here is a one-of-a-kind Wizard of Oz piece for the serious collector: this is an original painting on canvas of the “Wonderful World of Oz”, featuring the Land of Oz in the center, with lands from the other Baum/Thompson books in the surrounding space. This was done by an unknown artist based on the 1988 poster of the same name by Royal Illustrator Dick Martin. The artist has copied Martin’s poster skillfully, and he included Dick Martin’s signature in lower right, but left out the publication details at the bottom. The Emerald City and Glinda’s Palace feature prominent roles, along with The Shifting Sands, WoggleBug College, Merryland, etc. The graphics are just incredible with many small details–see photos. This map is much larger than the Oz Club maps–artwork size is a generous 24″ x 32″, and there is a 2″ blank border around that. It looks like it was once on a stretcher bar, but now is loose. Would look fabulous framed and displayed over a complete set of vintage or white cover Oz books (or could even just be informally tacked up on a wall). This is one of those special items that I’m reluctant to see go!
The painting is in quite good condition, with a little staining on the back. The colors are beautiful and vibrant. It comes with a tatty old copy of the original poster, where instructions are written to the artist in Spanish. A bit of a mystery, that. Will be shipped rolled in a Priority Mail tube.
