Here is a vintage copy of The Wonder City of Oz book, copyright 1940 by John R. Neill, famous Oz illustrator who continued writing the series for a while. This is an early Reilly & Lee edition, with a full color pastedown illustration on the cloth front cover, but not the 1st printing because it has 32 page “gatherings” (The Book Collector’s Guide to Baum). Black and white illustrations by John R. Neill, black and white illustrated endpapers, and a gorgeous black cloth binding with silver spine lettering. The black cloth goes great with the pastedown cover.
A quite nice copy overall: the color pastedown is still bright and beautiful, as is the cloth on spine and rear cover, except someone has written “NEILL” on the spine in cloth. Still in silver, but not as neatly as the publisher’s font (the author’s name was not normally included by the publisher). There is also a slightly darker black patch above the NEILL that may have been painted over. Inside, both hinges are intact and the pages are in excellent condition–no tears or writing and the ownership page is blank. There also is a synopsis from the original dust jacket flap tipped in on the front endpaper.
