Here is an unusual copy of The Hungry Tiger of Oz book, with one of the hardest to find and cutest Roycraft dust jackets. In about 1959, just eleven of the Oz books were issued in special dust jackets designed by Roland Roycraft. These were only in production for a few years before being replaced by the “white cover” editions without dust jackets, which are more common. The Hungry Tiger of Oz was written by Ruth Plumly Thompson and published by Reilly & Lee, copyright 1926. B&W illustrations by John R Neill inside.
Book is in fair to good condition–with some fading along the top edge as shown. Pages do not have overt water damage, but some age toning and faint musty odor. Faint pencil erasures on front endpaper but pages are also quite clean. Jacket is also fair to good–with some fading to spine, price clipped, chipping at spine ends, tape on flap, other moderate wear. Love the vegetable man on the cover–Neill’s vegetable man has always been creepy to me, but Roycraft’s version on front of jacket is quite cute!
