Here is a 1st edition, 1st printing of Cowardly Lion of Oz, copyright 1923 by Reilly & Lee and authored by Ruth Plumly Thompson. With 12 full-color plates and black and white illustrated endpapers by John R. Neill. This first printing with the non-standard ampersand on the spine, and with plates coated only on the front side. Points from The Book Collector’s Guide to Baum.
This copy is in good plus condition. Cover pastedown has a little staining at upper left and small chip lower right, but is still bright and attractive. Some slight splitting to cloth at very ends of spine; rear cover look very good with a slight ding at top. Inside, front hinge has been glue repaired and rear hinge is intact. All 12 color plates present, and in very good condition. Age toning to endpapers. Pages good with light finger soiling and one corner torn off (about 1″), not affecting text. Book Belongs To page seems to be missing. Overall a pretty nice copy with all the color plates for you, and a hard to find 1st.
