Here is an unusual 1939 postcard advertising The MGM release of the Wizard of Oz movie. Beautifully rendered with the cast (and Toto too!) posing in front of a mock version of the Wizard of Oz book. The Wizard of Oz Collector’s Treasury says this is alleged to have only been distributed on the west coast in 1939. The card is postmarked 7 Jun 1939 in Culver City (CA), two months before the formal movie debut. It likely was sold at the MGM studio in Culver City, as the writer on another card I sold said “Just came from the studio where this was made”. This one says “Interesting day. Wish you were here. RT was marvelous”–maybe referring to another MGM star?
This rare card is in good condition, with a partial postmark on the front, stamped and postmarked on the back, and moderate edge and corner wear.
