Description

Here’s an unusual little Oz item–The Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman, a colorful little booklet published by Reilly & Lee in 1932. Based on the Little Wizard stories, four of these booklets were sold with Oz jigsaw puzzles. Black and white illustrated endpapers, with full color illustrations by John R. Neill throughout. Front cover the same as the 1913 Little Wizard editions, except the “Little Wizard Series” caption has been deleted, like the Jell-O books published around the same time. As described in Bibliographia Oziana page 82-83. While the Jell-o books are quite collectible, these Jigsaw books are actually much harder to find. The main difference is on the rear cover–while the Jell-o books have the characters carrying a Jell-o mold, the Jigsaw characters are sitting atop an OZ symbol and are printed on a little thicker paper.

In near very good condition, light spine wear, corner bumping, rear cover and penultimate page with small holes at base, inner gathering (2 leaves) loose from one of two staples. Pages clean with age toning, but no writing or tears.
