Here is an unusual copy of The Purple Prince of Oz book with a dust jacket illustrated by Dick Martin. In 1960, only ten of the Oz books were issued in special dust jackets by Martin, and these were only in production for a few years before being replaced by the “white cover” editions without dust jackets, which are much more common. These jacket covers are described in Appendix 2 of Bibliographia Oziana (1988). Purple Prince was written by Ruth Plumly Thompson and published by Reilly & Lee. This is one of the harder to find Martin covers!
The book itself is near very good–exterior cloth is very clean, no marks, inside there is writing on the front endpaper that has been heavily marked out with black marker. Binding is tight but rear hinge is cracked. Name on Book Belongs To page is also blacked out, pages are clean. The jacket is good only, with edge wear and chipping, some discoloration on rear cover and old tape staining at base of split flap fold. Not price-clipped but with old price sticker on flap and some inked circles on rear flap book list.
