SOLD: OZ Book Author Rachel Cosgrove 1952 Typed Signed Letter, Book Collecting, Hidden Valley

Out of stock

THIS ITEM IS NOW SOLD. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE. Here is a great original signed letter from Rachel Cosgrove, who wrote The Hidden Valley of Oz in 1951. This letter is dated March 3, 1952, so was written just shortly after Cosgrove’s book was published. The letter is written to William G. Lee, in response to him (apparently) asking about her book collecting interests. She is not much of a collector and replies “I think that my favorite books for collecting purposes would be those written by me–all I have to do is to have some more books published!” Mr (William G) Lee was an early Oz collector whose collection was bought by bookseller Alla T Ford.

This one-of-a-kind letter not only includes the 1-page signed letter, but also the original mailing envelope that it came in, which is typed from “R. Cosgrove” in New York and contains the correct date (Mar 4, 1952). The letter and envelope are in good condition.

This item is part of a large lot of fascinating Oz correspondence that I bought years ago, and finally decided to sell the remaining pieces. It’s from the estate of Alla T. Ford (Mrs. Robert G. Ford), who was one of the 16 founding members of the International Wizard of Oz Club, as well as a serious collector and book seller. She even compiled 2 Oz-related books herself under her own label! I have retained copies of all the letters in the lot, and reserve the right to use them at any time for various purposes. However, you will be getting the one-of-a kind original for your collection!
