OJO IN OZ Ruth Plumly Thompson 1933 1st Edn Book w/ 1936 Dust Jacket

In stock

A very nice first edition of “Ojo in Oz”, one of the harder to find and thus more desirable vintage Wizard of Oz books. Written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, successor to L. Frank Baum. Copyright 1933 by Reilly & Lee, this is a first printing with 12 beautiful color plates by John R. Neill. As described in the Book Collector’s Guide to Baum, this is the secondary binding format with “Reilly & Lee” on the spine in semi-script writing. This book is fairly scarce even without the color plates, but was only issued for a few years with them. The included dust jacket lists Oz titles to Captain Salt in Oz (1936), which may be original to the book since the 1st printing may have been sold thru 1938 (see footnote on p. 115 of Book Collector’s Guide.)

This book is in very good or better condition. The color pastedown and spine look great; the rear cloth has a wrinkle and light soiling. Inside, the front hinge is tight and the rear is neatly glue repaired. Original price pencilled on the front endpaper (could be erased). Ownership page neatly filled in. The 12 plates are present and in glorious, near fine condition. The text is also in nice shape, with finger soiling to a few pages and mild corner bumping. The dust jacket is near very good condition, with some wrinkling and small edge tears at spine ends and along edges. Not price clipped. Overall a very nice copy of a hard-to-find Thompson first!
