Sold: LOST KING OF OZ Book 12 Color Plates Ruth Plumly Thompson 1925-1928 Reading Copy

Out of stock

Here is an early edition of “The Lost King of Oz”, one of the harder to find vintage Oz books. Written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, successor to L. Frank Baum. Copyright 1925 by Reilly & Lee, with 12 beautiful color plates by John R. Neill. Ca 1927-1928 printing with most plates coated on both sides, and bold Reilly & Lee spine imprint (see Book Collector’s Guide to Baum). Interestingly, is also has perfect type on “back” of p. 193, suggesting it is one of the earlier copies before the printing plates were worn. Book is in fair condition only, one of my “wild and homeless” books for the non-judgmental collector.

Some darkening/soiling to pastedown, small holes to cloth on spine and rear cover. Inside, both hinges are badly cracked with most of mull broken on rear hinge, cover just holding by about 1.5″. This the worst flaw. “No 28 written on front endpaper; small edge tears to endpapers; the pages are otherwise pretty clean. All 12 color plates are present and in decent condition, a few with small edge tears or soiling. Still nice to have for the color plates and offered at a steep discount due to condition.
