Description
Here is an original 1910 1st edition, 1st printing of the Emerald City of Oz with 16 color plates by John R Neill, published by Reilly & Britton. Illustrated endpapers with Ozma, and the color plates embellished with metallic ink. One of the most desirable Wizard of Oz books by L Frank Baum.
Unfortunately the book is in only fair condition, for the less judgemental collector and priced accordingly. Some scratching to the cover pastedown, although it’s still attractive. Substantial wear to spine with some fraying loss at ends and splitting to cloth on back side, as well as some staining. Rear cover somewhat dirty, and corners soft with some cloth loss. Inside both hinges are cracked and were previously taped, with some discoloration from that–though the binding is still attached and will hold if you are careful with it. Happily, all 16 color plates are present and in quite good overall, though a few are partially loose. Prior owner’s name on ownership page and some pages have moderate staining. There is an old store slip laid in, possibly from the time of publication. So, an acceptable copy of a hard to find Baum 1st, at a decent price.
