Description
Here is a nice early copy of “The Scarecrow of Oz”, 9th of the Oz books written by L Frank Baum. First published in 1915 by Reilly & Britton, this is a ca 1930 Reilly & Lee edition, still with all 12 beautiful color plates by John R Neill. The dust jacket is present, with a synopsis on the front flap titled “My Best! says the Author”, and lists titles to Yellow Knight of Oz on the back flap.
This book is in very good condition overall, with a nice complete pastedown, sharp corners, a little wrinkle to cloth top of spine, and a small light stain at top of rear cover. Inside, the front hinge is cracked, rear is intact, light foxing to top of endpapers and color plates, which are otherwise in excellent condition. Former owner’s 1933 inscription on Book Belongs To page. No other markings, and pages are clean with light age toning.
The dust jacket is good plus, cover panels complete, but with some chipping at ends of spine and flap folds. Also a long closed tear on back panel with has been taped on rear side, and a little staining at top edge. Hard to find original jackets for the early Oz books with color plates.
