Description
Here is a 1st edition copy of The Purple Prince of Oz, by Ruth Plumly Thompson, offered at a large discount as it has water staining. Published in 1932 by Reilly & Lee, this is the first printing with 12 color plates by John R. Neill. Also with illustrated endpapers. One of the harder Oz 1sts to find–as the color plates were discontinued in about 1935.
Condition of this book is fair only. The front cover pastedown is still attractive, with a little wrinking at the base. The spine and rear cover are pretty nice, tho the rear cover has a bit of creasing. Inside, both hinges are intact and tight, with just a little splitting starting to the rear endpaper. Ownership page has has a neat name. The main issue is water damage to the base of the pages–about 1/2″ along the bottom edge but spreading up the outer corners. Shows most on the 12 color plates–not affecting the art but still quite obvious. See photos.
