Description

A nice copy of a little “Fairy Book” put out by Royal Baking Company, Prince of the Gelatin Isles, and written anonymously by Ruth Plumly Thompson. Beautiful full-color illustrations on every page, evocative of or possibly by Janet Laura Scott. Also verse and recipes. According to Pacific Book Auction, Gelatin Isles was published in 1926. (Other Thompson Fairy Books came out as follows: The Little Gingerbread Man in 1923, Billy in Bunbury in 1925, and The Comical Cruises of Captain Cooky in 1926). They were Royal Baking “giveaways” and fragile, so not many were saved. Gelatin Isles is the rarest of the bunch! 24 pages.

This copy is in much better condition than usual, very good overall with clean covers, light spine wear, corner folds, and a tiny (<1/8″) tear to edge of cover and title page. Pages are quite clean with light staining to base of last two pages. A nice addition for that Oz collector who has almost everything.

The other three RPT booklets are sometimes in stock as well–search for “fairy book”!
