A wonderful little “Fairy Book” put out by Royal Baking Company, Prince of the Gelatin Isles, and written anonymously by Ruth Plumly Thompson. Beautiful full-color illustrations on every page, evocative of or possibly by Janet Laura Scott. Also verse and recipes. According to Pacific Book Auction, Gelatin Isles was published in 1926. (Other Thompson Fairy Books came out as follows: The Little Gingerbread Man in 1923, Billy in Bunbury in 1925, and The Comical Cruises of Captain Cooky in 1926). They were Royal Baking “giveaways” and fragile, so not many were saved. Gelatin Isles is the rarest of the bunch! 24 pages.
This copy is worn, but complete and in decent overall shape. Fair to good. Cover art has some wear, with erasures of some writing at the top and fold to corner. Paper spine has been neatly repaired on the inside with Japanese tissue. Some soiling and erasure marks to pages but complete and readable, with wonderful images. A nice addition for that Oz collector who has almost everything.
