Description

Here is a rare small version of W W Denslow’s image “What’s the Use?” (a skull wearing a laurel wreath, Roman style). This was offered as a B&W print iby the Roycrofters in different sizes, circa 1900, but this version is printed in blue-green and is actually a promotional item for The Philistine magazine. In my years of collecting Roycroft, I’ve only ever seen one other of these, and it hangs framed on my wall. Measures just 6″ x 7 1/4″, and in very good condition, with some removal marks on the top back–likely it was originally tipped in to one of the Roycroft publications.
