“Pig Pen Pete or Some Chums of Mine”, copyright 1914 by Elbert Hubbard, a book printed by the Roycrofters in East Aurora, New York. In stamped pigskin cover with top edge stained brown to match. Fabulous 2-page title page designed by Dard Hunter, with his “DH” in the lower right corner (he also designed the initials and running heads). 7 1/4″ x 5 1/8″, 221 pages, printed in black and orange, with a frontispiece of Hubbard, his son and horse “Three Chums”. This is a book about animals (Pig Pen Pete is a collie) and there are several other wonderful photos of animals throughout–for example, opposite p. 14 there is “Pig-Pen Pete, Pygmalian (a person I think!) and the Pigs”.
Book is in fair condition, with rubbing to corners, edges and spine, including a little chipping at spine base. The interior is well bound and with generally clean pages, but the last 1/3 of the book has some damp soiling (no odor), and one page has an edge tear where the pages were roughly seperated. A reading copy of a fun Roycroft title.
