Here is a lovely book called “The City of Tagaste”, copyright 1900 by Elbert Hubbard, printed by the Roycrofters in East Aurora, New York. This has a 3/4 suede binding. #872 of a limited run of 940, illumined by Harriet Robarge and signed by Hubbard. 8 1/4″ x 10 1/2″. Only 21 numbered pages, but lavishly printed on Roycroft watermarked paper with lots of extra blank pages at the beginning and end. A tissue photogravure of Elbert Hubbard tipped in.
The exterior condition is only fair at best, with some loss and darkening to the suede on corners, and suede on spine damaged with some loss and chipping at top as shown. Interior is in very good condition, with a tight binding, “May Lyman” and 1900 date to front endpaper, and clean pages. An early example of Roycroft work, offered at a super discount due to condition.
