Here is a nice copy of “The Book of Songs”, a Roycrofter poetry book from 1903 by Heinrich Heine. 6″ x 8″, 116 numbered pages. With a green suede cover, beautiful moire endpapers, and printed throughout in black and red. With gilt title block and topedge.
Book is in good plus condition, particularly for one of these “windshield wiper” books which are often quite worn. Exterior suede is still soft and retains much of its original green color, with spine faded to tan. There is a small spot on the cover as shown. Overhanging yapp edges which are often torn are still nice and intact. The front hinge has cracked and the ~1/4″ of loose paper looks to have been reglued. Endpapers and interior pages are very good, clean, no tears. The citron-colored silk bookmark is present but detached.
Featured Roycroft Quote: “Had I but two loaves of bread, I would sell one of them and buy white hyacinths to feed my soul.”
