Here is one of Elbert Hubbard’s popular series, Little Journeys to the Home of Famous Musicians, this a nice 3/4 leather edition hand illumined in watercolor and gilt by Maud Baker. #888 of a limited edition of 940 published by the Roycrofters in 1901, with a stunning title page and signed by Maud in the front. Volume 9 of the New Series. Includes Lizst, Handel Verdi, Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms. An elaborate production with tissue guarded frontispiece of each composer, with almost all the leading initials and sidebars hand colored.
The book has had the boards professionally reattached (but not rebacked), with small gaps along the joints. There is also discoloration to the greenish leather along the joints and corners–see photos. The marbled boards and endpapers are still in good shape, with some discoloration along the rear hinge. The pages are in very good condition, with tight binding and some age discoloration, particularly to tissue guards. Silk ribbon bookmark still attached. Rather unusual in this binding format and a great gift for the musician in your life.
