Description

Here is an interesting binding for the Roycroft book “White Hyacinths” by Elbert Hubbard. Originally published by the Roycrofters in 1907, this book was published in 1926 with a smaller format and an interesting, marbled white faux leather cover design. Roycroftbooks.org calls this a “unique binding”, but clearly there were at least two copies! 46 pages, size is about 5 3/4″ by 4 3/8″. The book also is in its original purple box. With Dard Hunter designed chapter heads. I love this book for the sentiment that it is named for: “If I had but two loaves of bread I would sell one of them and buy White Hyacinths to feed my soul.” Hubbard also waxes extensively on how much he loves and appreciates his wife, Alice, and her feminist ways.

The book is in near fine condition, with very clean cover, tight spine, clean pages (last two pages uncut at the edge). The box has considerable wear and fading. There were a few tiny silver stickers laid into the book that I will include in the box. See also my other Roycroft titles being listed this week!
