Here is an unusual W W Denslow item entitled “Fairbanks Juvenile History of the United States”, an advertising booklet for Fairy soap by the first illustrator of the Wizard of Oz! 1916 2nd printing (1st printed in 1911; the publishers blurb says this is a revised, limited edition but there is no limitation statement). Charming, beautifully illustrated booklet with Denslow’s vibrant illustrations throughout, all in full color and signed with “Den” and his hippocampus symbol. Each vignette utilizes a bar a Fairy soap somewhere in the scene. Very clever, very Denslow! There is even a leading galleon illustration that is reminiscent of his Roycroft work. 5″ by 7″ softcover, 55 pages, complete.
This copy in near very good condition, particularly for this fragile little book. Cover has light wear and soiling, wiht a small spine corner chip that extends about halfway into the page block. Otherwise the pages are near fine without writing or tears. Photos and description by Wonderful Books of Oz, copyright protected through the DMCA act of 1998.
