Here is a very nice copy of Three Little Pigs (and the Brave Little Tailor), the 1st edition format of the book published by Henry Altemus. With 40 illustrations by Wizard of Oz illustrator John R. Neill, many of them colored in red, blue and black. One of Altemus’ Wee Books for Wee Folks series. Small 4 1/4″ by 5 1/2″ format, 94 pages. The first format binding was only available for ~1 year before it was replaced with a less expensive one (see http://henryaltemus.com/wee_books/index.htm). Neill may also have done the endpapers, which are very interesting—the front has a boy aiming an arrow at a squirrel in a tree, who is defending himself with a book as a shield…and in the back, the squirrel is aiming the arrow at the boy reading a book!
Book exterior is in very good plus condition, with nice clean front cover, spine and rear cover. Light corner bumping. Inside, the hinges are intact and the endpapers are clean. The only flaw is one endpaper appears to have ben removed–presumably the blank one with prior owners name. The half title and title page and all other pages are present and in excellent condition. Pages are firmly attached–often loose in this series. The nicest of this format that I have seen!
