Here are two bound issues of St. Nicholas children’s magazine, one containing a short story by Wizard of Oz author L Frank Baum, and the other with seven illustrated vignettes by Oz illustrator W W Denslow. Both books have front covers detached and other binding issues, so I’m offering them both for just $10 plus $7.75 Media Mail shipping, as reading copies. See photos for condition.
The first book contains issues Nov 1910-April 2011 (v 38), with Baum’s Juggerjook short story on several pages (illustrated by C. Barnes). This is a tale of animal misadventures and an evil magician. The second St. Nicholas volume is Nov 1908-April 1909 (v 36), with Denslow’s When I Grow Up–seven 4-page stories with color and B&W illustrations and prose, depicting various professions. Includes The Autoist, The Pirate, The Clown, The Knight, The Cowboy, The Actor, and The Fireman, with some of the best of Denslow’s trademark humor and art. The books are published by the Century Co. It contains an incredible seven of Denslow’s vignettes, Six of the seven have the two main pages in color, the other is black and white. The books also contain many other children’s stories and illustrations by well-known authors and illustrators of the period. The text and illustrations are in good shape.
