Here is an unusual book illustrated by Oz artist John R. Neill. “Children’s Stories that Never Grow Old”, adapted by Mary Stone. This was originally published in 1908 by Reilly & Britton; here a ca. 1920 Reilly & Lee edition in excellent condition. A collection from the “Children’s Stories that Never Grow Old” series of individual titles, including Little Black Sambo, Peter Rabbit, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Jack and the Beanstalk, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, etc. Each illustrated in gorgeous full color and black and white by Neill. 248 numbered pages. (Warning: Little Black Sambo with racist stereotypes.)
Book is in great condition overall, much nicer than usual. Color illustrated cover has virtually no flaws, spine looks nice too, light soiling to cloth. Inside, front hinge lightly cracked, rear is tight. Pages are in beautiful shape, no tears or writing, save a prior owner’s pencil name on front endpaper. A very attractive compendium of Neill’s work!
