Here is a scarce book, Little Red Riding Hood, illustrated by Wizard of Oz illustrator John R. Neill. Copyright 1908, this is the 1st edition by Reilly & Britton, one of the rare Children’s Stories that Never Grow Old series. This title was bound with a pale blue cover with pink flowers. Unlike the later Children’s Red Book series, it just contains the one story and still has the lavish color endpapers, a color title page and frontispiece, and color illustrations on many of the 29 numbered pages.
Like many of these fragile titles in this paper-over-boards binding style, the book is only in good condition. The paper over the spine is partly gone, with some edge and corner wear, and the text pages are loose from the stapled binding, but all is there. Inscription and 1910 date in Book Belongs To box. The pages have finger soiling, but no writing, scribbling or tears. A rare Neill work–could not find any other 1st editions online!
