Here is an unusual early trade card illustrated by Wizard of Oz book illustrator W W Denslow. It pictures a boy or girl with a sword, riding a sea creature, maybe an octopus. Uusually these advertise a business on the back, but this one is blank, so possibly a proof. One of a set of four by Denslow, three of which I’m listing today (see Spring 2015 Baum Bugle p. 50), with the overlapping B&H mark of firm Baker & Hayes for whom Denslow worked ca. 1884. Original antique card.
Card is in good condition with some corner wear and tiny tear. Back looks to have been removed from an album.
Please check out the “Oz Illustrators” section in my Ebay store for other unusual Denslow items.
