SOLD: Wizard of Oz Author Ruth Plumly Thompson Signed Letter Personal Stationery, Oz Article, Alla Ford

Out of stock

THIS ITEM IS NOW SOLD. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE. Up for grabs is an original signed letter from Ruth Plumly Thompson, author of 19 Oz books after L. Frank Baum died. The typed letter is written to one of the original founding members of the International Wizard of Oz Club, Alla T Ford. Dated August 10th (no year) but In the letter, Thompson discusses Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine on Baum and Oz which was written by Martin Gardner in 1955, so from that era. The letter is in Thompson’s typical quick and energetic style, with the “Dick” she mentions not Oz illustrator Dick Martin, but her nephew Dick. Hand signed “R.P.T. Co”, a moniker she occasionally used for brevity. Letter measures about 5 1/2 x 6 3/4″.

The 2009 Sanders Price Guide lists $670 for Thompson’s signature on a signed letter, but I think that’s a little high, and am offering this for much less.

This item is part of a large lot of fascinating Oz correspondence that I bought years ago, and finally decided to sell the remaining pieces. It’s from the estate of Alla Ford. I have retained copies of all the letters in the lot, and reserve the right to use them at any time for various purposes. However, you will be getting the one-of-a kind original for your collection!
