Description
Original advertising trade card by Oz illustrator W W Denslow featuring a character from the Beggar Student by the Thompson Opera Co (originally produced by the McCaull Opera Comique Co). This card shows the Jailer holding a booze bottle and saying “These I’ll now confiscate”. Cards are included under “Miscellanea” in the Aut 1980 Baum Bugle Denslow checklist additions, with an 1883 date. The card is signed “W-(dotted diamond)-D”, one of Denslow’s very early signatures! Scarce. This card especially nice in that the back also advertises the Beggar Student at a specific (unnamed) opera house. In excellent condition, with light soiling on rear.
