Description

Here is an unusual early trade card illustrated by Wizard of Oz book illustrator W W Denslow. It pictures a character from the comic stageplay Falka–in this case Falka herself. A very early and charming example of Denslow’s work with his “W*D” signature marked lightly in red. This card is blank on the back with some adhesive residue. Falka (McCaul Opera Co) played in Philadelphia in 1884, which coincides with the time that Denslow was working in that city.

This gig by Denslow is mentioned in the Bibliography on W W Denslow published in the Autumn 1992 Baum Bugle and is a rare card. Card is in very good condition.
