Here’s a rare early Victor Talking Machine Co Record related to “The Tik-Tok Man of Oz” (stage musical created by L Frank Baum) of 1913. The song is “Ask the Flowers to Tell You”, by Oliver Morosco and Victor Schertzinger, sung by John Barnes Wells. The flip side (not from Tik-Tok Man) is “When Dreams Come True”. I believe this is 78 RPM format. Includes an early Nipper the dog (famous RCA mascot) on the record center! 10″ diameter. Last patent date on the record is 1912, and I found mention of this in Victor Record’s 1914 and 1917 catalogs, so from sometime circa 1913-1917. Have not played, but it looks to be in good but dusty condition with light wear. Sleeve is very worn and is probably not original. A true antique Oz-related item!
I can’t find much else about this recording, but I have sold “My Wonderful Dream Girl” in this format, and I did find mention of a Victor Record “Sammy” (from the original Wizard of Oz play) in a 1998 post here.
