Description
Cool 2009 homage to one of L Frank Baum’s first publications–The Rose Lawn Journal newspaper! The Rose Lawn Home Journal was an amateur newspaper published by Frank and his brother Henry in the 1870s. It was named after the Baum family estate near Syracuse, New York and featured short original fiction, poetry, riddles, and early advertisements for a family business.
This 2009 edition is 4 pages, in celebration of the 40th Munchkin Convention. The first page reproduces one of the Baums’ introductions to the July 1871 edition, in flowery prose with a couple typos (not sure if the typos were in the original or not?) Mostly includes other, new material such as other conventions, the 30th anniversary of The Wiz, Baum family landmarks in New York, and the Ancestry of L Frank Baum. There is also a neat biography of Frank’s brother Henry Clay Baum and an interview with Cynthia Baum Cassini, Frank’s niece. In good condition with light wear. I’ve never seen this piece before.
