Here is an unusual piece of sheet music, “Mister Dooley”, featured in L. Frank Baum’s early Wizard of Oz stage musical. The decorated cover has an inset photograph of “Robbie” (Bobby) Gaylor, who played the Wizard of Oz himself, and “As Sung in The Wizard of Oz” at the top. (Other versions exist without The Wizard of Oz or Gaylor on the cover, as the song was first used in The Chinese Honeymoon musical.) Words by Wm Gerome, music by Jean Schwartz. Copyright 1902, Shapiro & Bernstein Company. 3 pages of printed music on 4 leaves including covers. Oversized, original.
In fair only condition with substantial edge wear and tear, spine and some of largest edge tears taped, former owner’s name on front cover. Still a rare piece, complete, and the first of this tune I’ve been able to find with the Wizard of Oz blurb and Wizard cast member.
